SIMPLE Name Cards pt 2

A little some more to browse through...

Simplistically cute.

The card is such a delight. Not the same applies to the restaurant though...

A demure, oriental-inspired card . Material: platinum white

Lime green has taken over the 21st century, and here it is so succintly used to convey 'life'.

The calm, serene tone of this card communicates the relaxing atmosphere of the facial spa.

I like black cards. Period.

Minimalistic. Straightforward. Lovely.

When in doubt, just let the logo do the talking.

A nice little present wrapped neatly for your clients.

SIMPLE Name Cards pt 1

Here's another look at the name cards in my collection. This time, the theme is SIMPLE.

Clean, sleek, uncluttered, direct. Let's see how those words translate into the name cards design.

Cute... the card, I mean. Not the girl.

The white and pink compliment each other so well that it's as if the card is made out of sugar, spice and everything nice...and it mirrors the identity of the company well.

The laminated texture of this card is JUST sleek. The red/orange colour scheme is fiery!

Gotta love the shadow effect.

Professional and suave

Tranquil-looking. So peaceful.

It can't get any simpler than this. Use this only if yours is a brand name, a catchy name or just plain weird.

Floral motives are blooming cute.

To be continued in part 2...

Worried about Nuts

I'm stuck. I don't know what to do next. And I don't know who to consult. The only person who understands is ... flitting away. My fault, I guess?

I'm just worried about losing it. I'm worried I'm taking it too far and I don't know where and how to stop. And I'm worried it does not work out.

My sis is flying off to somewhere within the next two weeks. There'll be that awkward, dramatic send-off moment again, at the airport, freeflow of tears, unexpected breakdowns, the impatient relatives, and the odd silent one trying to stay strong. That silent one is usually me. The impatient one will be my mum, hurrying to get her onto the plane. The breaking down one will be my dad.

I would have thought the roles would be REALLY different if I hadn't gone through that before. Usually dads are the strong ones, the mums crying and the siblings smirking at their newfound freedom.

It's funny, cuz my sis just came back from London in early April and now she's off to somewhere new. I'm gonna miss those crazy laughs we had. And yes, the shopping. Shopping with sisters is so much more exhilarating than with your conventional, annoyingly frugal, your-budget-is-RM20-tops Asian parents.

I'm not complaining. And I'm not even panicking. SPM is four months away, and I haven't started any shit. I dreamt a few nights ago that I left my Mod Maths paper blank. Eeeks!

My dad hasn't been feeling good. 2009 is not his year at all. It's one sickness after another. Last night's event was atrociously frightening. And both my mum and my sis are going off, leaving me with my dad.

I can't even take care of myself! Looks like there'll be loads of Domino's, Pizza Hut, McD, KFC, Maggi Mee, Gardenia and Chuan Lee for the two of us in the few weeks that they're away. Just the two of us....

Life is fun.

Oh God I'm so whiny.

PS: Why do Assunta events ALWAYS HAVE TO CLASH with Samad events? I so badly want to go for their Installation... then there's the silly Karnival Samad 2009. Oh, and Cheer 2009.

Name cards

I confess. I am a compulsive brochure/pamphlet/card/postcard/magazine hoarder. I've got boxes dedicated to storing whatever "nice crap" I have accumulated, stashed in my room. Anything that looks nice and is made from paper, I collect. I know I'm not exactly being very eco-friendly here, but that's not the point...

...So let me share with you some of the name cards I've collected. They are the nicer ones in my collection, but not the most outrageous cards you will ever find. It's quite hard to find creative ones here in Malaysia, which is a shame because name cards are a really effective communicative tool between you and the client/public. It serves as your identity, your little advertising gadget that fits neatly in everyone's wallet and are not as pesky as leaflets.

So let us all learn a thing or two from these cards below, and hopefully we'll see wackier cards to come.

...Oh chewah...kad nama aku...

Last but not least, my fabulous library card. The coolest SMKSAS library card you'll ever see.

Actually, these are pretty common once you've looked at the even wackier, offbeat and simply artistic ones in http://creativebits.org/cool_business_card_designs. Here, you'll see cards that can be folded/stretched/torn/shaped/peered into and are made from metal/cardboard/plastic/perspex/cloth/rubber/clay and God knows what else can the human brain do to poor name cards.

Whoops!

So it has been some time since I last updated my blog. Yeah, it's meant to be semi-dead anyway. The Frankenstein among the ocean of blogs out there. Unique!

I had this sudden inspiration some time ago, a few days before Cultural Night. I want to return to my initial goals of making this blog an art/design blog, where I can display pretty things either made by me or by others.

And yes, the occasional blab session on anything relevant or irrelevant. I already have a few things lined up in my head. This blog will be an extension for my expression of love for design.

This blog started out in that direction initially. Those who followed from the start will notice the change from pretty/interesting/pretty interesting posts to those of the typical spill-it-all-out-to-Dear-Thelma sort. I mean, if anyone follows.

So it's time to head back to the start.

Because design is fun. pretty. innovative. inspiring. exciting.

TROLAK Supercamp 2009

This should be one of the hottest topics right now, but only because it happens only once a year!!! And it's my last supercamp, so even more importantlah....
Took us a damn long time to reach Trolak...bus problems, sesat jalan... reached there, had lunch, checked in, divided into groups... My group name was WTF... and my initial reaction was WTF also... like what the f***? Seriously?

I was put in the same group as Shivani, Yee Hsiong, Vijay, Raja, Elizabeth, Chen Lynn, Jen Yeen, Geetha, Abi, Aishwarya, Mei Kei, Amsyar, Michael, Yuja and Yen Peng (yup!). 15 of us. I was kinda intimidated at first, cuz there's Raja, Shiv, Vijay and they all... didn't really know them...but Mei Kei was in there, so I was like yeah!!! Can carry out my mission after all...

First up was The Amazing Race. Okaylah. We were running around without any directions like morons, trying to find the stations. I love the part where we had to stuff our face into flour to retrieve a piece of sweet, then run back and swallow a wasabi biscuit without swallowing the sweet. BLUECK. It was the best. Reminded me of those childish sukaneka stuff we had to do back in Std 1. And dipping our hands into oocky liquid? Cool. I liked that one too. Like sticking my hands into semi-congealed slime.
At night pulak, this dude called Brian Wong gave us a talk on "Manifestation Formula", about how to make your dreams come true. We had to find an accountability buddy to share our dreams with. Mine were Melissa, Sheau Woan and Mei Kei.
Went to hot springs the next day. Syiok gilerr... gotta dig the slide. The water was really hot!!! My legs were like steamed turkey after getting out of the water!!!
So lazy after the hot springs. Obstacle course pulak. Best jugak ah. Had loads of scratches from the commando crawl. Did it about 5 times, demo here, repeat there. A lot of balancing act to do, which I seriously did not enjoy because my feet are FLAT. Shivani calls it "The Curse of the Flat Feet". Hah. Thank God didn't fall into the dead fish pond.

Forum and discussion = BORING. Jungle trekking = BORING. Hi-lo rope = OOLALA. Really liked the lo-rope. Hi-rope pernah buat, so dah biasalah. Flying fox = ok ok. INTERACTORS' NIGHT = FUNNY. DISCO TIME = BEST.

Sri Amanians are the best to dance with!!! Praveen had to record us some more. Heeeshhh.

Shall not mention any further :B

Should I post a video of Amsyar and Vijay snogging?

Supercamp 2009

Just got back from Supercamp! Wonderfully exhausted. Danced my butt off. Yes, we played Twister in the middle of the night, but with clothes on. Story coming up soon. My camera is such a bastard, it wouln't take nice pictures for me. So I'm waiting for pictures from Melissa.

Still thinking about the backbreakingly hilarious scene of Amsyar snogging with Vijay. WTF yall!!!!!! Worldwide Tactical Force!!!!!!! (WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!)
